The WA Writers Centre
The Western Australian Writers Centre (WAWC),
originally known as Western Writers, offers a coordinated range of
writing activities in three convenient geographic locations throughout
the metropolitan area: Greenmount, Joondalup and Swanbourne. The member
groups of the WAWC are KSP, PCWC and FAWWA.
The WAWC constitution protects the autonomy of the three writers’ centres but enables a new world of unity for:
-
Applying for joint funding from ArtsWA and other organisations for initiatives that are common to all member writers’ centres,
-
Publishing a new much
improved quarterly magazine, Marginata, in conjunction with the State
Literature Centre. The cost/benefit will be enhanced due to the larger
circulation and improved funding for the literary pages,
-
Developing new initiatives
that are common to all member writers centres, especially those that
require significant resources and funds,
-
Participating in planning of such events as Writers Week,
-
Promoting a higher profile for all WA writers,
-
Providing mentoring Services,
-
Negotiating reciprocal membership rights to functions at other member writers’ centres,
-
Negotiating trade discounts.,
-
Improving co-ordination and synergy in the activities of member writers centres
How will this affect membership at the FAWWA? You will:
-
Remain a member of the FAWWA with all the facilities and services that are currently provided,
-
Continue to receive the monthly newsletter from the FAWWA,
-
Be represented on the WAWC Committee through representatives of the FAWWA,
-
Be
entitled to participate in almost all functions at all other writers
centres that are members of WAWC - currently KSP, PCWC, FAWWA - at a
WAWC membership discounted rate,
-
Be entitled to participate in WAWC organised functions at a member discounted rate,
-
Receive the new free quarterly magazine Marginata, in conjunction with the Fremantle Literature Centre,
-
Be entitled to trade discounts that WAWC is able to negotiate.
WA Writers
Centre programs are supported by the State Government through ArtsWA,
by the Literature Board of the Australia Council, Lotteries and local
governments.
